FRANKLIN, Tenn. –
Passport Health Communications, Inc., a revenue
cycle management company headquartered in Franklin, Tenn., has been certified as
a compliant Level 1 Service Provider by the
PCI Security Standards Council, a consortium of
credit card issuers including VISA, MasterCard, Discover Card, American Express
and JCB International.
The Council sets and administers
regulations for the credit card industry
regarding how businesses handle cardholder data. The regulations are designed to
impose standards among businesses to minimize fraud, identity theft and other
ways cardholder information can be compromised. There are four levels of
compliance, with Level 1 being the most stringent.
Passport has for years processed secure patient payment transactions for
hospitals and other health care providers through a partnership with a
PCI-compliant payment processing company. Passport’s own PCI compliance
reinforces its commitment to provide secure solutions and gives its clients an
additional layer of security to prevent data compromise and protect them against
fines and other potentially significant losses associated with a security
breach.
“Achieving PCI Compliance required a great deal of work, but we feel it is
extremely important to demonstrate to our clients the seriousness with which
Passport handles sensitive data, such as patients’ credit card information,”
said Passport Chief Sales and Marketing Officer Jeff Drake. “By taking this
proactive measure we are among few health care revenue cycle management
companies to be Level 1 PCI compliant. Our clients and their patients are even
more protected.”
Many of Passport’s clients – more than 5,300 hospitals, physician offices and
other health care providers – utilize the company’s products and services to
collect payments from patients. Passport’s financial services include
credit card processing,
credit reporting and scoring,
cash tracking,
patient payment estimation and others.
The certification process for Level 1 compliance typically takes months to
complete and involved Passport’s hiring a third party entity to audit its
operations and perform a security assessment. The company’s networks and
technical infrastructure were analyzed and met PCI security requirements related
to the protection of cardholder data.
The PCI DSS Compliance standard applies to all U.S. businesses accepting credit
cards as a form of payment. The Council establishes criteria for retailers and
other entities based on transaction volume and regularly monitors and audits to
ensure compliance. Passport will be scanned and tested monthly, quarterly and
annually to maintain its compliance.
