FRANKLIN, Tennessee – Passport Health Communications, Inc. has launched an Internet-based credit card processing capability
that is custom-built for the healthcare industry and turns any PC with internet
access into a financial collection point in a hospital or clinic environment.
Providers can accept all major credit cards with a single click of a mouse.
“I spent many
years in the early stages of my career working in the patient registration
setting, and I know how important it is to have an efficient means to collect
patient payments – both at the point of registration and at the back-end for
billing and collections,” stated Jim Lackey, President and CEO of Passport.
The Passport
credit card tool allows transactions with or without the card present, and
features a custom financial reporting tool designed for single or multiple site
locations, - linking financial transaction history by patient account number,
date, card type, department and user. It eliminates the expense associated with
telephone line connections for the traditional “card swipe” POS devices and,
because it’s internet-based, doesn’t require additional software. Clients can
expect expense savings related to equipment and operational workflow from 50% to
60%, while increasing collection opportunities to all points of service.
In addition to
the large cost savings a facility will enjoy; one of the more significant
effects of processing over the internet is the administrative reporting tools
the accounting departments will now be able to utilize. Traditionally, POS
devices have created a labor intensive and cumbersome process with day-end
reconciliation. Month-end paper statements were usually the only audit trail
the facility had in regards to what credit cards were processed. With
Passport’s credit card tool, the accounting department will now- be able to get
real time information in an electronic format however and whenever they need
it. Because of this automation, staff can devote more of their time to
patients.
Passport is now
introducing the browser-based credit service to its large base of 650 hospital
clients in 38 states.
