FRANKLIN, Tenn. – BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina is providing real-time
claim status updates through Passport Health Communications, Inc., executives
from the two companies have announced. Using a direct connection to BlueCross
BlueShield of South Carolina, Passport is able to send and receive claim
information for any health care provider serving patients covered by the
insurer.
“Passport is a household name when you think of intermediaries between providers
and payers, so as we look for ways to make our interaction with providers
easier, it makes sense for us to partner with an entity that has established
itself with BlueCross in our state and in many others,” said David Boucher,
assistant vice president of health care services for BlueCross. “I think long
term this type of process will greatly enhance the efficiency and accuracy of
the entire provider-payer relationship, and personally I am excited to see that
happen. We have huge expectations.”
Several providers throughout the state are already using the claim status
service via Passport OneSource®, a real-time, Internet browser-based
delivery system. Hospitals, outpatient surgery centers, physician practices and
other providers have for years been using Passport OneSource® for
real-time eligibility inquiries from BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina,
Medicare and Medicaid and other commercial payers.
“One of the most distinguishable values we bring to our clients has always been
the reliable connectedness we have with the payers that they interact with, and
BlueCross BlueShield has a large network statewide,” said Jeff Drake, chief
sales and marketing officer for Passport. “By expanding on our relationship and
managing the information that is passed between the provider and the payer, we
are hopefully streamlining the process on both ends.”
Drake said Passport continues to pursue additional payer connections in South
Carolina and across the country.
Headquartered in Columbia, S.C., BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina is an
independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
