Orlando Regional Healthcare
Transforming Pre-Registration With Passport Health
|

|
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Orlando Regional
Healthcare System, a nationally recognized health care provider and leader in
health care IT, has automated certain areas of its operations by implementing
fully integrated revenue cycle management technology from Passport Health
Communications, Inc.
Passport IntelliSource® Plus is a fully integrated, Health Level 7-based
solution that provides Orlando Regional Healthcare insurance eligibility. The
solution integrates with the provider’s health information system (HIS) and can
link to all major health information or practice management systems to drive
front end workflow in a real-time and/or batch format.
“We’ve known what we wanted for some time, so this is the culmination of a great
deal of strategic planning as it relates to our administrative and financial
operations,” said Craig Pergrem, corporate director of patient business for
Orlando Regional Healthcare. “Passport IntelliSource® Plus gives us the ability
to do exactly what we want to do – simplify and automate our process, improve
our data accuracy, increase our efficiency and save money.”
Passport IntelliSource® Plus and its multiple components gives Orlando Regional
Healthcare the ability to work inpatient and outpatient accounts from a
centralized pre-registration area in a building off campus, where personnel
complete most pre-registration functions before patient arrival, some up to 45
days in advance. The provider sends batch files including hundreds of accounts
to Passport for processing each night and results are delivered directly back
into the Passport IntelliSource® Plus WorkCenter, a customizable
spreadsheet-style repository of patient account information that allows staff to
manage and work registrations. The process is greatly simplified and streamlined
for significant financial and administrative savings. Previously staff worked
accounts one at a time using payer Web sites and other resources for
verification.
“By moving some of the administrative and financial responsibilities from the
back end to the front end, Passport has helped us reduce wait time for patients
and collect more up-front co-pays,” said Pergrem. “From a customer service
standpoint, we are now getting accounts completed and moved through the access
process without delays and are getting patients to pay their patient
responsibility via phone prior to service or commit to a ‘promise to pay’ upon
admission.”
Pergrem added that while using new tools to create a change in process can be a
challenging proposition, Passport IntelliSource® Plus has been widely accepted
by the staff using it at Orlando Regional Healthcare.
“We have asked our staff to double their daily productivity, so the expectations
about the new system and how Passport IntelliSource® Plus fits into the workflow
are very, very high,” he said. “But the response even on the first day was clear
– they love this product and believe it will allow them to achieve their goals.”
