FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Geisinger
Health System, a pioneer in technology for revenue cycle
management, has teamed with Passport Health Communications to create an
innovative,
fully integrated, Health Level 7-based (HL7) system for insurance eligibility
and address
verification. The solution, Passport IntelliSource®, integrates with Geisinger’s
EPIC
system and can integrate with all major health information or practice
management
systems.
The benefits in cost savings, efficiency and accuracy are significant, because
Geisinger processes nearly a quarter of a million patient data inquiries each
month.
“We are realizing staffing efficiencies and process flow that have never been
available. Before Passport, we used up to eight systems to check eligibility,
including
telephones and paperwork,” said Ellie Henry, director of MyVisit Pre-Financial
Clearance and Customer Call Centers. “But now we get everything we need in one
work
center – including eligibility, deductibles and co-pays. The savings in paper
alone have
been huge.”
Dave Tribbett, chief product officer for Passport Health Communications, said,
“This was our first HL7 release to an EPIC system and probably the most
configured
solution we’ve installed to date. We’re thrilled because most of the Geisinger
team’s
workload is being driven off our work center every day.”
“The customization to our process flow was very important and based on input
from the staff,” added Henry. “The result is a new system that they rely upon
completely. It’s just an excellent tool.”
Geisinger is using Passport’s IntelliSource® system for eligibility and address
verification. Near-term plans are to use IntelliSource® for verifying medical
necessity
and Passport BatchSource for claims status processing.
